I was most excited to find a site especially for Gipsy's on the internet.  Even though I don't understand much about computers I am proud to say I know plenty about my Austin Gipsy 1959.My name is Dagoberto Ruiz and I live in Huehuetenango City, Guatemala, Central America.  I bought my Gipsy from an american missionary in 1970 after it being in multiple accidents since it was used in high mountain travel.  Even though I've taken the liberty on some details the car is an original Gipsy on a 90%; the engine has never being repaired, it is now as it was in 1959!!, the transmission (transfer box) and the gear box are also untouched. My grandchildren are always impressed when I crank up my jeep just as they see in the movies and everyone is marveled to know all the adventures we've enjoyed together.  Each of my 6 children learned to drive and had their first car experience on this vehicle.  At one time we traveled with 12  ladies from the choir of my church for 50 km over a steep hill.  Not to mention the time my Gipsy an I had to pull a well loaded truck.

Austin Gipsy G1M10
Here are some photos of an Austin Gipsy prototype sent in by James Dunsdon
SERIAL
STATUS: Unknown
LOCATION: England

I twice saw this vehicle for sale in the auto trader magazine about 1995/96 (I think) both times for sale from 4x4 dealers. And both times sold/gone before I rang up. No mention was made in these adverts of anything "prototype". Then a couple of months later I saw an Austin Gipsy listed in a farm equipment dispersal auction, so went the 50 miles or so to have a look. When I got there, there was a notice in the windscreen saying 'two stick Austin Gipsy prototype' where they got that from I don't know. But it
did have a couple of interesting differences, the most obvious being a 'lump' or vent in the bonnet. What exactly this was for I don't know, but it certainly
looked like it was done when it was made rather than an owners modification. The bumper and rear of the vehicle are obviously non standard, but I suspect that these are more likely to be later mods. There was a
small hand painted name on either side of the bonnet of something like 'boozlebug'. Unfortunatly didn't get it, and it sold for about #140 if I remember correctly. I don't know who the buyer was and haven't heard of it since. If any body knows where it is I would be interested to hear.

Here is some more information about this Gipsy

"Re the blue gipsy mentioned by James Dunsden , this gipsy sat for a long time in the yard of Gerald Dinis ( WHITE HORSE MOTORS )L.R
dealers  ,of Tedburn St. Mary , Devon , it was a px vehicle ,. I photographed it there in about 1992 ? i have the chassis no.
somewhere , and it was mentioned in the Registers newsletter , by me . Its original colour was Fawn , as were most mk1s , i dont remember if the bonnet air vent was home installed , but imagine it was . It had its original vinle sidescreens also . They were haveing a clear out of non L.Rover 4x4s , at that time , and it was parked next to an ARO RANGER . I spoke to W.Horse motors recently , they said it went some time ago , but didnt know where . I didnt have a good look at it , but ime pretty sure it was a standard production Mk1 , sills had been bodged , as well ! hope this is of interest."
